REACHING THREE PEAKS OF FITNESS !
Remaining with the madness and fitness theme, many many thanks to Danny , Linda, Peter and Geoff Smith, James Mortlock, Frank Horwood, Vimal Sharma, Francis Chin and Liam Kinseley for raising £1500 for Fatboys by undertaking the equally arduous Three Peaks Challenge. For those of you who have not encountered this particular lower level of hell previously, this entails walking up and down the three highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales in one day. For those of you who are uneducated, this means Ben Nevis, Scaffell Pike and Snowdon (hope I've got that right !!). The team managed the feat in just over 24 hours. As a true Fatboy, I can only stand back in admiration and question their state of mind. But we really do appreciate their valiant efforts and would like to thank them all for their commitment to the cause and to all those who supported them with donations. Danny commented ' At times we were on a slippery slope and had a mountain to climb, but we peaked at the right times and now we're on cloud nine....!!'
LAKING ALL OVER
Further madness and fitness story ! Stalwart (and ageing) Lawless XV RFC player Stu Parker is trying to re-kindle his youth as a champion swimmer by competing in a one mile open water race across Lake Windermere in aid of Fatboys. He will be competing against the likes of Phil Mitchell from Eastenders (nobody knows his real name.....typecasting issue there I think) and Dr.Hilary Jones. This is one that I don't mind acting as support crew for as it entails firing up the outboard whilst trying not to spill my pint and sitting back in the speedboat. Good luck Stu.....sponsors can donate at http://www.justgiving.com/Stuart-P/
HELPING ST.NICHOLAS SCHOOL
Fatboys has donated a significant sum of money to St.Nicholas School in Chippenham. This is to assist in the purchase of a Hydrotherapy pool to help children who suffer with many different severa and complex illnesses, some of them terminal. The school is desperate to raise funds for this pool and any help is appreciated. fatboys recognises the value of the facility and the large number of children suffering illness who would benefit from this. Visit their website at St Nicholas School.
FATBOYS HELPS HELEN HOUSE
Fatboys has purchased music and storage equipment for Helen House in Oxfordshire which provides respite and end of life care for children and young adults with life-shortening conditions. We have supported Helen House many times over the years and this will continue as long as we exist because the care they can provide in difficult times for children and families is outstanding and worthy of our support.
Run for Fatboys, Run!
Congratulations and huge thanks to Martin McDonnell from Widnes in Cheshire who successfully completed the London Marathon and raised a large sum of money for Fatboy's. We are always genuinely appreciative when people who are unknown to us raise funds on our behalf. Martin enjoyed the marathon and the tough challenge it presents despite the heat. He is in two minds as to whether he would do it again, but we have sent him some Fatboy's running shirts, a rugby shirt and mug as a gesture of thanks.
